Happy Independence Day! Today always makes me want to visit the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot, so I thought I would write about the most patriotic of all snacks: the American Dream.
This layered drink made of strawberry slush, vanilla soft serve, and blue raspberry slush is sold at the Fife and Drum Tavern.
The Fife & Drum also sells other fan favorites like stuffed pretzels, popcorn, root beer floats and turkey legs, which I’m told are distinctly patriotic.
On our last visit, I tried several days in a row to order the American Dream. I was told that the slush machine wasn’t working. Toward the end of our visit, I lucked out, and the machine was back in working order. However, actually ordering the drink proved to be another problem. The cashier couldn’t figure out how to ring me up for the drink and called a manager over. He said that the option to ring up the American Dream was removed from the cash register for some reason, and he had to so some creative finagling to arrive at the correct price and get me rung up.
The drink itself was not as good as my trouble to get it would suggest. The ice cream layer was very thick, and I think its texture and colder temperature affected the slush layers a little. I also think that the flavor may have been a little less bland if the red layer were cherry instead of strawberry. However, it’s a fun novelty for a hot day, and in my mind, even a bad slushy is a good snack.
Have you ever tried the American Dream? What are your favorite snacks from the Fife and Drum Tavern?
