A common theme in modern Mickey Mouse shorts is Mickey racing against time to avoid disappointing Minnie.   This story is no exception.  Mickey wakes up from a nap to discover that he’s running late for his date with Minnie.  He dresses up to head out the door, but then disaster strikes … his ears.

Mickey Mouse's ears don't want to be styled.

While Mickey is fighting against his ears’ unwillingness to behave, they fly out the window!  What follows are some good sight gags as the cartoon goes to near-silence with Mickey’s ears missing.

A series of sight gags occurs when other objects take the place of Mickey's missing ears.

Mickey Mouse chases his ears through the city, eventually finding them at a hockey game.  They’re acting as extra pucks on the ice, totally confusing the players.  Mickey gets his ears and nearly picks up a hat trick in the process.  But of course, there’s also cartoon violence.

Cartoon violence turns to onomatopoeia on the ice.

Mickey arrives at the theatre and edges in to his seat just as the curtain comes up.  He soon discovers that it would probably have been better had he not found his ears at all.

Mickey reaches up to remove his ears again when the opera singers take the stage.
